Why your hotel may not have a 'Do Not Disturb' sign

No matter what type of hotel you stay at, there's one thing that's always consistent and that is the 'Do Not Disturb' signs that you hang on your door for optimal privacy.

While most travellers use the included signs to avoid turn-down service and other interruptions, several hotels are now modifying the sign as part of system that will see increased security measures. 

Walt Disney World hotels such as Disney's Contemporary Resort and Grand Floridian Resort and Spa will be swapping their 'Do Not Disturb' signs with 'Room Occupied' signs.

"The hotel and its staff reserve the right to enter your room for any purposes including, but not limited to, performing maintenance and repairs or checking on the safety and security of guests and property," Disney’s new guest information pack reads.

This involves a a hotel employee being able to enter your room at least once every 24 hours, regardless if the 'Room occupied' sign is on the door. The only rules for staff are that they must knock and announce themselves before entering the room.

Disney isn't the only hotel chain changing their ways. Hilton have recently revamped their "Do Not Disturb" policy worldwide, with staff having to place an "unable to service" note under the door of a room that has not been entered for more than 24 hours.
