Would you move to this lush Canadian island if you were paid in free land?

If you're in the market for new job, the Farmer's Daughter Country market in Cape Breton island, Nova Scotia, is hiring. There's no executive's salary attached to the listing, but they will give you a job and a hectare of land on which to build your new life – and some might argue that's just as good.

The small-town general store posted the listing on their Facebook page three weeks ago, but it's slowly gathering steam – and, at this rate, it could become one the most hotly contested job markets in the world.

That's because the poster has done an admirable job of highlighting the island's drawcards – including a communal love of the arts and neighbourly goodwill – garnering more than 6000 shares and 4600 comments at the time of writing.

"Are you someone who is looking to live a simpler life, close to nature, in an area that still believes in community meals and weekly jam sessions?" the advertisement reads.

"We can't give you big money, but we can give you an awesome life."

Well, who's going to argue with that?

Among the comments fawning over the island's picturesque landscape are hundreds of genuine job applications, so you'd better get in quick if you fancy a northern-hemisphere sea change.
