Notorious Boeing 747 makes its final landing over Caribbean Beach

A KLM Airlines Boeing 747 famous for its anxiety inducing landings over a beach in the Caribbean has touched down at Princess Juliana International Airport in St Maarten for the last time.

The Dutch plane regularly passed as low as 30m overhead as it came in to land on Runway 10, widely touted as one of the world's scariest runways.

Going forward, the 747 will be replaced by a significantly smaller Airbus A330 on the non-stop service between Amsterdam and St Maarten, so while it'll still come close to beach-goers, it won't feel nearly as ominous.

Signs warning the hundreds of plane-spotters who visit the beach on a daily basis about the dangers of getting too close to incoming aircrafts are likely to stay in place, with one reading, "Jet blast of departing and arriving aircraft can cause severe physical harm resulting in extreme bodily harm and/or death".
