Top travel publication announces the list of world's best beaches, with four Aussie names in the top 10

What do you think are the qualities needed to name a beach as the world's best?

Is it white sand? Clear water? Remoteness? Or just good vibes?

Conde Nast Traveller has released its list of the best beaches around the world for 2024 – and there are some surprises to be seen.

Not only did four Aussie beaches land in the top eight, but an often-overlooked Sydney beach also ranked very high.

15. Praia do Sancho, Brazil

Often referred to as the best beach in Brazil, Praia do Sancho can be found in avolcanic archipelago off the north eastern coast of the country.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll have to pay a fee to enter - but it's worth it.

Keep an eye out for giant iguanas as you frolick in the clear water or sunbathe on the sand.

Also known as Turtle Island, this small island off the coast of the larger Greek island of Zakynthos is a breeding ground for loggerhead sea turtles.

Though most of the island is cordoned off as protected zones, there is a small sandy area where boats can park and visitors can swim.

An atoll found in the island nation of French Polynesia, Farakava is endless stretches of white sand fringed by palm trees and the clearest blue water you've ever seen.

Classified as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO, it was also home to French painter Matisse for a few months, and served as the inspiration for his Blue Period.

The Seychelles are of course home to hundreds of beaches that'll take your breath away, but Grand Anse may take the cake.

Acccessed by a short hike through the woods, visitors emerge onto powdery white sand framed by giant rocks and palm trees. The water is warm and safe to swim in year-round.

Located in the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, this 20km-long beach is a pristine stretch of sand beloved by walkers and hikers.

It can only be reached by 4x4, meaning it's never too crowded, preserving the tranquility of the beach - which is one of the best places in South Africa for whale watching.

Tucked away in Abel Tasman National Park, this remote beach is the kind of place you'd want to camp up at and never leave .

Surrounded by pristine waterways and native forest, the beach is locally known as the 'Peoples Beach', as it was purchased by Kiwi's back in 2016 after extensive crowdfunding.

Located an easy drive from Brisbane, this classic Aussie beach is as beloved for its sand and water as its collection of boutiques and cafes lining its edge.

As you can see, this sand dune an hour's drive from Bordeaux is a local fave for paragliders.

The dunes which line the beach are 90 metrs tall in some places, perfect for duneboarding - or just rolling down to the shoreline below.
