A tropical island needs you to come and hug their cute rescued puppies

Amy Nelmes Bissett

Not that sunning yourself on a tropical island needs any added allure but one Caribbean hot spot is now offering sun, sea and…puppies.

Yep, on the Providenciales, part of Turks and Caicos Islands, you can hang out with rescued puppies and take them on beach walks. Or just hug their very cute faces.

The Potcake Place is a rescue centre on the island, which has been trying to get a grip on the problem with stray dogs for the last eleven years.

The breed found all over the island is potcakes – a mix between Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd and English Fox Terriers.

They don't grow very big, and are known for being smart and loyal. But mainly, they look like they're smiling and maintain a puppy-like look whatever their age.

Run by Jane Parker-Rauw, the centre has about 50-70 dogs in its care and they are always looking for some love.

In fact, they have no actual shelter for the dogs, instead the staff "look after these pups in our own homes until a permanent home can be found".

"Our policy is to house them for as long as it takes to find the best home. This is the only alternative we can see to them starving in the bush, being run over, intentionally poisoned, dying of heartworm, ehrlichia, parvo or being euthanized."

Since kicking off in 2005, the Potcake Place successfully finds homes for 500 dogs worldwide every year.
