Australian WWE wrestler Peyton Royce destroys body-shaming journalist

Australian WWE wrestler Peyton Royce has slammed a journalist over misogynistic and degrading comments he made about her body.

Dave Meltzer, of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, was forced to issue a public apology after he received a torrent of backlash for remarking he found Royce ‘more attractive’ when she was ‘lighter’, while appearing on radio.

"I think Peyton Royce’s transformation to look more attractive … I don’t know, I don’t want to say. But I don’t think that …,” Meltzer began.

“That they were more attractive in NXT?” co-host Alvarez asked.

“I thought so, yes. To me, yes. I would say so. But that’s neither here nor there,” Meltzer answered.

“But she doesn’t stand out to me … when she was in NXT she did … she was a lot lighter.”

Royce, and compatriot Billie Kay, recently made their debut on WWE’s Smackdown after slugging their way through the lowel-level NXT league, and the Sydney born star was not about to let Meltzer off the hook.

“So what would you have me do Dave … starve myself? This is how nightmares for young women start. The females in your life must be proud,” Royce posted on Twitter.

A slew of fans and colleagues rushed behind Royce in a show of solidarity for women in sport. 

Meltzer soon issues his own apology in the wake of the backlash.
