Western Sydney to host triathlon titles

The Western Sydney 70.3 triathlon will host the Asia-Pacific championships in 2017.

Monday's announcement came only days after the Ironman-distance Asia Pacific titles in Melbourne were cancelled, with organisers blaming a clash of dates with the Formula One grand prix.

The World Triathlon Corporation, which owns the Ironman and 70.3 races, is expected to announce a replacement venue later this week for the Ironman-distance Asia-Pacific championships.

There are several 70.3s, or half-Ironman distance races, in Australia.

Cebu in the Philippines will host next year's Asia-Pacific titles and the championship status will be rotated annually around the region.
