NSW man named as victim in water ski accident

A water skier who died at a competition on the Murray River has been named as 47-year-old NSW man Kevin Vahtrik.

Mr Vahtrik, of Tennyson in Sydney, was pulled unconscious from the water at Moama on Saturday afternoon after losing contact with his boat during a qualifying session for the Southern 80 water ski event.

Police and paramedics were unable to revive him.

Ski Racing Australia chief executive Grant Cummin offered his condolences to Mr Vahtrik's family and friends in a statement.

"SRA will provide all possible support to those involved," the statement said.

A report is to be prepared for the NSW coroner.
