Volleyballer wins point with 'falcon'

A college volleyballer was the toast of her teammates after winning a point in the most unlikely fashion – with her face.

Playing in an inter-college match in the US, the young woman was waiting for her rivals to return the ball when she was caught out by a powerful spike shot.

With no time to react, the ball cannoned off her face, with the force of the blow throwing her to the floorboards.

But to the joy of her teammates, the ball sailed back over the net and beyond the reach of their opponents before landing safely in the court for a winner.

The shot has drawn comparisons with a viral video where Yale college footballer Scott Sterling saved a penalty with his face earlier this year with the footage later superimposed on a volleyball match to create an equally popular video.

Only this time around there was nothing fake about the blow of the volleyballer's winner.
