Gridiron: US high school team execute perfect onside kick

A US high school gridiron team pulled off a simple and hilarious plan to recover an onside kick when the kicker blasted the ball into the head of a rival player.

With the receiving team stacked on the 35-yard line, the kicker took his chances and drilled the ball straight into the helmet of an opposing player.

The ball rebounded perfectly with a teammate of the kicker taking possession and returning upfield for a 10-yard gain.

American football rules state that the ball becomes "live" after it travels 10 yards or touches an opposing player – both of which happen in this amazing play.

And on the eve of the NRL finals, this is where clubs should be grabbing pen and pencil.

Imagine this when you’re trailing late in a game: get the ball back and take out a rival in the process with a falcon.
