US college football eyeing Aussie opener

Sydney looks set to play host to the opening game of the US college football season for a second straight year, with Stanford University slated to play Rice University at ANZ Stadium in August 2017.
Having staged the 2016 season opener between the University of California and Hawaii in August, Stanford said they were only awaiting formal approval from the NCAA to play their first game in Sydney, according to a report in The Mercury News of San Jose.
The schools are currently scheduled to play in Houston on September 2, but the game would be moved forward a week if it is approved to accommodate the travel.
