Diaz shocks McGregor for biggest UFC win

American UFC fighter Nate Diaz has recorded the biggest victory of his career after defeating Irish champion Conor McGregor at UFC 196 in Las Vegas.

McGregor, the featherweight champion, was left bloody and humiliated after Diaz, who had only 11 days to prepare for the fight, shocked the Irishman with a well-executed submission in the second round.

McGregor looked to have the fight under control, coming out the aggressor and opening a cut above the American's right eye in the first round.

But despite blood streaming down his face, Diaz refused to back away from the punches and turned the tide with a series of blows that rocked the champion.

And the end came quickly for McGregor when he tried to take down Diaz, only for the 30-year-old to turn the tables and end the fight with a suffocating choke hold.

Earlier, veteran Miesha Tate sensationally grabbed the women's bantamweight title after submitting Holly Holm in the final round.

Holm, who was featuring in her first fight after beating Ronda Rousey in Australia, seemed to be finding her range after escaping a number of takedowns from her rival.

But with time ticking down, Tate found her moment, attacking the back of Holm and locking down under the champion's neck.

Holm tried to break free by flipping Tate over her head, but the No.2 contender couldn’t be shaken loose and took the win with an impressive submission.
