Tom Burgess 'following Hayne's NFL lead'

Rabbitohs forward Tom Burgess may be on the brink of following Jarryd Hayne to the NFL.

Reports have emerged that Burgess took part in a trial with the Giants in New York.

The English-born prop was worked out as a tight end, according to top NFL newsbreaker ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.

If the report is true and Burgess is successful, he would be the second member of his family to transition into another sport, following his brother Sam's controversial move to rugby.

Whilst 'Slammin' Sam' was successful in making England's World Cup team, he was the target of fierce backlash when England became the tournament's first hosts to exit in the pool stage.

He has since signed a three-year deal to return to the Rabbitohs, whom he helped guide to a drought-breaking premiership in 2014.
