Thrilling fencing duel ends in bizarre fashion

A thrilling fencing duel ended in bizarre fashion when a swordsman fell in a crumpled heap at the San Jose Men's Foil World Cup.

British competitor James-Andrew Davis was fighting Yuki Ota when the Japanese launched an attack during the second round.

Jumping forward with a beat attack, Ota tried to take the gain upper hand, lunging at his rival before continuing the attack.

However, the tide turned when the Japanese star's move broke down after he again lunged at Davis and his sword became stuck.

But in a strange scene, Davis' counter-attack was blunted when the reeling Ota fell backwards.

Forced to the ground, Ota made a difficult target and despite an innovative jumping move, an attack from the left field of the fencing manual, Davis couldn’t win the point and the duel was waived away.
