US open champion Naomi Osaka is poised to sign a record-breaking endorsement deal with Adidas as the fallout from Serena Williams’ grand final meltdown drags on.

According to The Times, the 20-year-old Japanese star is reportedly closing in on a $14 million per year agreement with the sportswear giant that will mark the largest deal the company has have ever offered to a female tennis player.

The deal, in conjunction with the cool $5.3 million she pocketed with her grand slam victory, is set to rocket Osaka into second spot on Forbes’ 2018 list of highest paid female athletes behind Williams.

Her agent Stuart Duguid said along with her new-found fame Osaka’s Asian and Haitian heritage, coupled with her American upbringing oozes marketability as sponsors line-up to capitalise on the break-out star.

“I thought she would be an unbelievable player with marketing potential through the roof,” Duguid told The Times.

“We manage Nishikori so we know how strong that market is for endorsements.

“It’s very attractive for us and the blueprint was there.”

The largest female sportswear deal currently belongs with her oppoenent Serena Williams who is reportedly on a $25 million per year contract with Nike.
