'Awkward scenario': US Open play delayed on all courts due to electronic line-calling system
Play in 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev's US Open match in Arthur Ashe Stadium — and at all contests on other courts — was delayed for a few minutes on Tuesday morning because the tournament's electronic line-calling system stopped working.
Medvedev took the first two sets against Nuno Borges and they were at 2-1 in the third set of their fourth-round match when the chair umpire told them they needed to stop.
They were in the middle of a rally when he yelled, "stop, stop!' before calling both players over.

When the players made their way to the umpire's chair, he gave them an odd explanation.

"There is a fire alarm in the building where the HawkEye booth is. We cannot continue because the system is down at the moment," the chair umpire said.
"So did you want to have a seat? We will resume as soon as possible."
It was then announced that play would stop until the issue had been rectified. Medvedev and Borges then took a seat until further notice.

"Awkward scenario," Jim Courier said in commentary.
The same thing happened as Beatriz Haddad Maia was serving for the first set of her match against 2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki.
There were a total of 15 matches in progress at the time. Eventually, all resumed.
