Aussie Tomljanovic out of Turkey WTA event

Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic has exited the WTA's Istanbul Cup event, losing her first-round tie to Czech Marketa Vondrousova.

Tomljanovic was defeated 6-3 6-3 in just under 90 minutes in the Turkish city, hitting four aces but failing to cope with Vondrousova's slick game.

Vondrousova will now face Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.

On Tuesday, top seed Carla Suarez Navarro was knocked out in the first round by fellow Spaniard Lara Arruabarrena, losing 6-4 7-5.

The 25-year-old Tomljanovic, based in Brisbane, was eliminated at the round of 16 stage of a Charleston WTA event earlier this month by Sloane Stephens.

She is currently ranked No.39 in the world.
