'The world's best players in Australia': ATP Cup draw revealed in Sydney

The ATP Cup draw has taken place in Sydney with Australia to take on Group F in Brisbane.

The ATP says all top 10-ranked players, including Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, have committed to play in the inaugural ATP Cup in Australia in January.

"All the best players in Australia; we are going to have them all here for a month," Lleyton Hewitt told media at the draw at the Sydney Opera House on Monday.

"It's great for tennis, to be able to showcase the best players in the world representing their country," tennis legend John Newcombe said.

The top 18-ranked countries and Australia, as the host-country wild card, will be among the qualifiers for the tournament to be held in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney from January 3-12.

Serbia leads the current rankings, with Spain second, Switzerland third and Russia fourth.

For the Brisbane stop, Serbia was drawn in Group A with France and South Africa, and Group F included Australia, Germany, Greece, and Canada.

In Perth will be Group B (Spain, Japan, Georgia) and Group D (Russia, Italy, USA), while Sydney will host matches featuring Group C (Switzerland, Belgium, Great Britain) and Group E (Austria, Croatia and Argentina).

The ATP said the top two players for each country have committed to play, subject to change based on the ATP rankings at the second entry deadline on November 13, when remaining team members - up to an additional three players - will qualify.

"This is an idea that has been based around the ATP which is about the players," Hewitt told media on Monday.

"They want to have the opportunity to have the best preparation. We get all the best players in the country. All of them have guaranteed they're going to play in Australia.

"I'd love to play. I wish we had it 10 years ago. This is a great event to be a part of."

Five additional countries will also qualify to compete at the 24-country tournament based on the ranking of their No.1 singles player, but they are not yet confirmed.

Eight countries will then play at the ATP Cup Final Eight in Sydney, which will feature quarter-finals over two days, semi-finals and a final.

Each match will be two singles and one doubles.
