Bernard Tomic advances into clay Challenger quarter-finals

Bernard Tomic's revival continues, with Australian winning successive matches on clay for the first time in more than a year.

Tomic's 6-4 6-1 second-round victory over French wildcard Johan Tatlot propelled the former world No.17 into the quarter-finals of the Open du Pays d'Aix Challenger event in Provence.

He next faces Italian qualifier Gianluca Mager after winning consecutive matches on his least preferred surface for the first time since being top seed in Istanbul last May.

Tomic has since spiralled to 243rd in the rankings but is finally showing signs of life again after a dismal 2017.

The 25-year-old could conceivably play Australian John Millman in the final.

Top-seeded Millman beat local Constant Lestienne 6-2 6-2 to set up a quarter-final against German Oscar Otte.
