Tomic crashes out at Surbiton grass event

Bernard Tomic's Wimbledon preparations have been dealt a blow after he was sent crashing out of the Surbiton International grass court event in southwest London by Spaniard Marcel Granollers.

The Australian was seeded seventh for the tournament, which is on the Challenger Tour, but went down 7-6 (14-12) 6-3 in the pair's second-round clash.

There was also disappointment for Alex Bolt who started well against Britain's Dan Evans but eventually lost in three sets, 5-7 6-2 6-0.

However, second-seeded West Australian Matt Ebden eased into the quarter-finals with victory over Serbia's Lukas Lacko 7-5 7-6 (7-4).

Ebden will now face Romania's Marius Copil for a spot in the semi-final, the stage he reached last year before losing out to eventual finalist Alex de Minaur.
