Miami Open: Daniil Medvedev fires up at Stefanos Tsitsipas after words exchanged at net

Daniil Medvedev had to be held back by tennis officials at the Miami Open when a war of words with Stefanos Tsitsipas threatened to escalate.

Medvedev defeated the Greek youngster 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, but tensions flared at the net as the pair shook hands following the match.

The Russian appeared to take issue to something said under Tsitsipas' breath as he walked over to pack his bags and leave the court, sparking the world no.52 into a fit of rage.

"Man you better shut your 'f--- up ok?" Medvedev said, looking in Tsitsipas' direction.

The umpire immediately spotted the troubling situation developing and repeatedly tried to calm down Medvedev, but the Russian got up to confront the 19-year-old.

"Hey Stefanos, you want to look at me and talk? You have some problems?" Medvedev yelled.

"You go in emergency toilet for five minutes, then you hit a let and don't say sorry, and you think you are a good kid? 'Look at me, look at me huh! You don't look at me?

"He started it. He said 'bull---- Russian', you think this is normal?

"I answer him because he doesn't know how to fight. He's a small kid who doesn't know how to fight.

"If he says something to me and he wants to fight, he needs to do it. But he doesn't look at me."

Eventually Tsitsipas exited the court and Medvedev was able to simmer down.
