    Samantha Stosur was beaten in straight sets in the second round of the Indian Wells WTA tournament by world No.15 Kristina Mladenovic.

    The 2011 US Open champion lost 7-5 7-5 to the French 14th seed.

    Stosur is Australia's third-highest ranked woman's player with world No.21 Ashleigh Barty and No.26 Daria Gavrilova yet to play in California after first-round byes.

    Elsewhere, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova survived the challenge of Yulia Putintseva to prevail 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-3) 6-4.
