Arina Rodionova will lead a field of eight Australian women's tennis players fighting for a wildcard at this year's US Open.

The nation's reciprocal female wildcard at the American tournament will be awarded to the winner of the play-off, to be held in New Haven this weekend.

Taking on the world No.153 Rodionova for the spot are Olivia Rogowska, Lizette Cabrera, Priscilla Hon, Jaimee Fourlis, Astra Sharma, Ellen Perez and Abbie Myers.

The winner will join fellow Australians Ashleigh Barty, Daria Gavrilova, Ajla Tomljanovic and former US Open champion Samantha Stosur in the women's main draw at Flushing Meadows, which begins on August 27.

"Our Australian players are making their presence felt on the world stage and every player in the play-off has a tremendous opportunity to earn a spot to compete against the world's top 100 at the US Open," Tennis Australia's Nicole Pratt said.

"The field is very strong, we have five players ranked inside the top 200."
