Djokovic nearly pockets disaster with spectacular catch

There's a good reason why world No.1 Novak Djokovic has earned the nickname 'The Djoker'.

But the natural showman may want to rethink a potentially eye-watering stunt he pulled off during his round two clash with British player Kyle Edmund at the Miami Open.

The Australian Open champion was serving in the third game of the first set when his opponent framed a foul serve high into the night sky.

Jumping on the chance to live up to his moniker, the 28-year-old raced into the middle of the court, pulled open his left pocket and set himself for a remarkable catch.

However, slow motion replays of the incident show Djokovic wasn't too far away from inflicting upon himself a very painful and embarrassing injury with the ball slamming into his shorts at a ferocious speed.

"That could have gone horribly wrong actually," one of the commentators joked.

The lucky break was the only hint of a rare mistake from Djokovic with the Serbian moving into the third round with a 6-3, 6-3, straight sets victory.
