'Bad boy' Kyrgios earns rare praise

Bad boy Nick Kyrgios has surprised fans with a stunning act of sportsmanship in his Dubai win over Tomas Berdych.

Kyrgios was trailing 0-15 in the second game of his quarter-final when he urged Berdych to challenge a fault call by a line judge.

Berdych did, and Hawk-eye revealed the ball was good.

The good sportsmanship continued, with Kyrgios applauding several winners from Berdych during the Aussie's 6-4, 6-4 win.

Kyrgios, whose reputation took a battering in the wake of his infamous "girlfriend" sledge to Stan Wawrinka, was nursing a back injury against the Czech world number seven.

While he was lauded for his act of sportsmanship, Kyrgios also turned heads for creating what may be a new shot, pulling of an outrageous "jump forehand" and a 360 degree turn before smashing home a winner.

The win is Kyrgios' eighth straight victory and means he progresses to the Dubai semi-finals, where he will face Wawrinka.
