Tennis: Nick Kyrgios delights new coach James Cerretani in Tokyo

It’s happened.

It seems Australian tennis prodigy Nick Kyrgios has finally succumbed to the cacophony around him and hired a coach.

On Thursday, the 23-year-old emphatically announced he had elected American James Cerretani, a doubles player by trade, to lead him through the Asian leg of the ATP tour.

“James is my coach now — you can quote me on that one,’’ Kyrgios told The Courier-Mail.

Cerretani, 37, has claimed four ATP doubles titles in his career, reaching his highest ranking of No. 45 in 2008 on the doubles circuit.

“We have been working for a while now, especially the last couple of weeks," Kyrgios said.

“We’ve been talking on the phone a lot (in recent weeks), but starting in Tokyo it’s the first week we have been working together officially. It’s going well."

Kyrgios cruised through the first round of the Tokyo Open, defeating Japanese qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets.

The world No. 27 couldn’t resist pulling off a trademark trick shot, along with a whopping 20 aces to down the local talent 7-5, 7-6.

Meanwhile, Aussie starlet Alex de Minaur grinded a huge win over Frenchmen Gilles Simon in just over three hours to progress to the second round.
