Kyrgios 'emotional' after ousting seed in sizzling comeback win
Nick Kyrgios has completed an “emotional” return to singles action, defeating world No.36 Corentin Moutet in straight sets at the Stuttgart Open.
The former Wimbledon finalist hadn’t competed in singles since early-January, prior to withdrawing from the Australian Open tournament.

Kyrgios has battled with knee and wrist injuries in recent years, but made a massive statement in the 6-3, 6-4 win over eighth seeded Frenchman Moutet.
The 31-year-old produced some of his trademark power on serve and didn’t face a single break point throughout the match.
The polarising Aussie even managed a few drop shots and tweeners in the one-sided win over the Frenchman.
Speaking post-match, Kyrgios said he was back on tour for the fans and admitted it had been a tough journey due to injuries.
“I feel great and motivated,” he said.
“Quite (an) emotional moment. I had a lot of surgeries and I’m very thrilled to be back. I had a wrist reconstruction, I had four knee surgeries.
“But I’m back mostly because of the fans. I’m staying for you guys”.
Tennis journalist Jose Morgado described the win as “very impressive” and “much better than probably most expected” on social media.
The win marked Kyrgios’ first in singles competition since last year’s Miami Open.
It was also his first singles win on grass since Wimbledon 2022, where he played career best tennis and was two sets away from a maiden grand slam title when he led Novak Djokovic in the final but was unable to finish the job.
Kyrgios could earn a wildcard entry to Wimbledon, which starts later this month, depending on his form and fitness in the coming weeks.
