The president of Britain's Lawn Tennis Association has stepped down temporarily while the governing body investigates an allegation of sexual assault from 2004.

The LTA says a complaint was made in December about the way Hertfordshire County LTA handled the sexual assault allegation against a coach in the area.

LTA President Martin Corrie was a member of the executive committee of Hertfordshire County LTA at the time.

In a statement released by the LTA, Corrie said: "I believe it is right for me to step aside from my presidency during the course of this investigation.

"I would not wish my presence in this significant public role to become a distraction from the very good work the LTA is currently doing in the safeguarding arena."
