Kyrgios hits unbelievable, nonchalant winner in loss

Nick Kyrgios’ rollercoaster month has continued after he lost his opening Davis Cup match against Kazakhstan despite hitting one of the spectacular winners ever.

With Australia already 1-0 down after Thanasi Kokkinakis lost the opening match to Mikhail Kukushkin, the pressure was on Kyrgios to deliver for his country in Darwin.

Footage from the third set shows Kyrgios all but give up on a point after he could only lob a service return up to Aleksandr Nedovyesov.

With Nedovyesov a virtual certainty to win a routine point, the Kazakhstani guessed hit the overhead smash in the vicinity of a dawdling and disinterested Kyrgios.

It was the then that the enigmatic Aussie showed his x-factor with a nonchalant forehand lob winner that landed on the baseline and left Nedovyesov, the spectators and commentators grasping for superlatives.

The incredible shot helped Kyrgios break Nedovyesov but the world number 115 broke back immediately in the next game on his way to a 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (7-2) 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 victory.

At 2-0 down, Australia must win Saturday's doubles encounter just to keep the tie alive.
