Junior Wimbledon players forced to change underwear due to All England Club dress code

The dress code at Wimbledon is as old as the tournament itself and it seems officials at the All England Club are still hell bent on applying the rules no matter how old competitors are.

While competing in the boys’ doubles tournament at Wimbledon, top-seeded 18-year-olds Zsombor Piros and Wu Yibing were forced to bring their match to a halt by a rules official because their underwear did not comply with Wimbledon’s rulebook.

The players seemed a bit sheepish about the request because both players were wearing white and weren’t quite aware by the colour of their underwear.

The players accepted the court’s ruling and went to get changed.

When they got back to playing Piros and Yibing were unfazed, taking the match in straight sets.

The pair were handed fresh white briefs and asked to leave the court and get changed.

Funnily enough this wasn’t the first wardrobe violation at the tournament.

18-year-old Jurij Rodionov was pulled up by the fashion police because of the colour of his underwear.

After it was explained to him that his briefs could be seen during some of his serves, Rodionov was eventually sent off to get changed as well.

Rodionov returned to the court in rule-abiding underpants and won his third-round match.

According to the official rules of Wimbledon, playing outfits must be “almost entirely white,” and the rule clearly states, “white does not include off white or cream.”
