French Open organisers have increased the tennis grand slam tournament's prize money by 12 per cent to 36 million euros ($A52.4 million).

They have also narrowed the gap between the earnings of the men's and women's winners and the first-round losers.

The two champions of the second grand slam championship of 2017 will pocket 2.1 million euros ($A3.1 million) each, up 100,000 euros ($A145,500) from 2016.
