It was the defining rally of the Australian Open final and also summed up what Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are all about.

With Federer having clawed his way back to a 4-3 lead and the score locked at deuce, the two men thrilled the crowd with a 26-shot rally.

Nadal had the early advantage with Federer scrambling just to hit some of his booming baseline drives back over the net, before the Swiss ace applied some pressure of his own to the Spanish champion.

The crowd thought the point was over on several occasions and started clapping their appreciation but neither man refused to yield and play continued on.

Eventually, Federer managed to stretch for a forehand before thundering a clean winner down the line.

It gave him the advantage in the set and he would never look back from that point on as he went on to win and claim his 18th grand slam.
