Dimitrov prepares for Open semi shot

Big-serving Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov has the chance to replicate his best performance in a grand slam on Wednesday by setting foot in the Australian Open semi-finals.

He has the form. He has the game.

And in opponent David Goffin, he has the match-up.

Dimitrov is undefeated in four meetings with the slighty-framed Belgian - even if only one of those has come at ATP tour level.

Despite the relatively few recent meetings, Goffin, 26, and Dimitrov, 25, aren't strangers to each other.

The two have paired up during the off-season for intensive training and it's left the 15th-seeded Bulgarian in no doubt as to his opponent's abilities.

"He's a very dangerous player. I need to be ready mentally and physically for the battle," he said.

"He's been serving really well ... this is one of his biggest weapons (and) he's one of the greatest defenders out there."

Wednesday's winner will be one match away from a grand slam final in the most open tournament at Melbourne Park in years.

Dimitrov said he and other players couldn't worry about world No.1 Andy Murray and No.2 Novak Djokovic already being out.

"There's been a lot of talk going on around those two guys exiting the tournament, but you should never look at it that way," he said.

"The draw is open. What does that mean? Just that two guys are out of the draw. Big deal.

"If you follow your own path and the way you're playing, the belief that you have, anything can happen.

"Right now I think it's just important to focus one match at a time. Enjoy it. Embrace it."

Dimitrov hasn't been back to the last four of a grand slam since his breakout Wimbledon performance in 2014.

Goffin has never been there.

The 11th seed, who recorded his first-ever win over a top-10 player - Dominic Thiem - to reach the last eight, said he wasn't thinking about the weight of the occasion.

"It would mean a lot," he said.

"But I will be focused on the match, not on the consequences if I win or if I lose. I will be just focusing on my match."
