* PLAYER OF THE DAY: Venus Williams - the 36-year-old defeated compatriot CoCo Vandeweghe in three sets to become the oldest woman in the 49-year Open era to reach the final at Melbourne Park. With younger sister Serena crushing Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in straight sets, the Williams sisters remarkably will face off in their ninth grand slam final
* STAT OF THE DAY: 6-2 - Serena's record over Venus in grand slam finals. The last time they contested the final of a major was at Wimbledon in 2009, which Serena won in straight sets. Serena was also the victor in 2003 in their sole Australian Open final
* QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Obviously, I was really proud of Venus. She's basically my world and my life. For us to both be in the final is the biggest dream come true for us." - Serena after booking her spot in the final just hours after Venus had done the same
* KEY MOMENT: After taking the first set, Vandeweghe falters in the second as nerves get the better of her. She sends down consecutive double-faults to hand Venus the break and a 4-1 lead, which her more-experienced opponent is quick to take advantage of
