Australian Open champions: Past winners of Grand Slam from 2000 tournament onwards
Andre Agassi beat Yevgeny Kafelnikov 3-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 in the 2000 Australian Open men's final for his second title at the Grand Slam.
Lindsay Davenport beat Martina Hingis 6-1 7-5 in the 2000 Australian Open women's final for her first and only title at the Grand Slam.
Thomas Johansson beat Marat Safin 3-6 6-4 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in the 2002 Australian Open men's final, for his first title at the Grand Slam and only major. The unlikely Swede somehow won from the 16th seeding, the first to so do in the open era, as bigger names toppled to give him a favourable draw. Johansson had never been past a Slam quarter-finals before that and hadn't gotten past the second round in 15 of the 21 majors he'd previously contested. He'd lost his opening match in the Sydney lead-in event in 2002 and in the tournament before that, lost to world No.120 Paradorn Srichaphan.
Jennifer Capriati beat Martina Hingis 4-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 in the 2002 Australian Open women's final, defending the trophy for her second title at the Grand Slam.
Justine Henin beat Kim Clijsters 6-4 4-6 6-3 in the 2004 Australian Open women's final, winning her first and only title at the Grand Slam.
