How newly engaged Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis could leave $1m richer from Australian Open

Engaged Aussie pair Jason Kubler and Maddison Inglis could have a much more lavish wedding than expected after thier success at the Australian Open.

Inglis is out of the tournament but had an inspirational run, going from the first round of qualifying to a fourth round exit against Iga Swiatek.

Her run meant she pocketed $480,000 in prize money along with $22,000 for a first-round doubles loss.

Kubler has also been successful, advancing to the men's doubles final alongside teammate Marc Polmans.

Winning the doubles would see the pair take home $900,000, or $450,000 each. Kubler grabs another $150,000 from making the first round of the men's singles draw as well.

Both Inglis and Kubler started the tournament as wildcards or qualifiers across the board, and the newlyweds could potentially pocket just over $1.1m.

After losing to Swiatek, Inglis had confirmed it's the most prize money she'd ever received in a tournament.

"I'll definitely use a lot of it to invest back into my tennis and have some people on the road with me to support me and make some weeks a bit easier with family or friends," she said.

"I love shopping, so I'm sure I'll buy something nice. I've wanted a Smeg toaster for so long ... I think that's going to be my treat, maybe the kettle too.

"A big dream is a Mini Cooper. I'll keep working on that. I want to be rolling down the Gold Coast in my Mini Cooper, so that's a dream.

"We'll see how the next few months go."

Inglis plug for Smeg, innocent or not, worked a treat because instead of buying any products they sent them to her.

Kubler and Polmans defeated Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinkski 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 setting up a match with Christan Harrison and Neal Skupski.

Post-match, Kubler put all the praise on Polmans.

"It's unbelievable, far out he carried me today," he told Nine's Wally Masur.

"In the second set I felt like I had too much energy and almost shut down a little bit and without Marc on my side in this match, I don't know if I would've been able to get through that.

"He did really, really well today and I'm so happy to be playing with Marc."

The 32-year-old Kubler won the Australian Open men's doubles in 2023 with Rinky Hijikata as his partner.
