Novak Djokovic had a hilarious response to a crowd member jeering during his third-round win over Tomas Machac.

During the match, Djokovic grew increasingly frustrated by members of the crowd at Rod Laver Arena calling out when the players were preparing to serve and yelling 'out' during live points.

During his on-court interview with Andrea Petkovic, Djokovic was able to laugh at the exchanges with the attendee after prevailing 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.

The exchange started when one of the guilty crowd members interrupted the interview, shouting, "Marry me, Novak".

Stopping mid-answer, Djokovic quipped: "Sorry mate, I have a wife.

"We can have a drink though.

This prompted cheers from the Rod Laver Arena crowd as Djokovic turned back to face Petkovic.

"Him and I were going back and forth for quite a while actually," he said of his interactions with the crowd member.

Keeping the joke going, Petkovic asked: "Shall we set up a date?"

With a befuddled look on his face, Djokovic conjured the last laugh.

"Um, listen, I'm happy to have a drink with him now that the match is over. I think we can reflect nicely on what we said to each other during the match," he said.

Having struggled with an ailment during the match, Djokovic again revisited the gag as he attempted to alleviate any concerns.

"One drink will solve everything that is happening physically," he said with a grin.

Djokovic will next face No.24 seed Jiri Lehecka in the final 16 on Sunday, January 19.
