Ash Barty's incredible act of sportsmanship at tense moment in semi final

Ash Barty may have been locked in the heat of a grand slam semi-final, but that didn't stop her from displaying some world class sportsmanship.

With the Australian leading the first set 4-3 and putting some pressure on Sofia Kenin's serve, Barty scrambled to keep a point alive, lunging forward at an awkwardly bouncing ball to prod it over the net.

To the naked eye it looked as though Barty may have just got her racquet under the ball and that was the way it was called by the chair umpire, who was allowing the point to go on when the world No.1 intervened.

Barty turned her back to the point and waved her hand, conceding that the ball had bounced twice before she got her racquet on it.

It was just another reminder of why Barty is so popular, not just with Australians but around the tennis world, with a play hard but fair philosophy. Win at all costs is not her scene.

And while Kenin was still in a good position to win that point, Barty's act of sportsmanship may have ultimately cost her the set, with the conceded point moving the score to 4-4.

The Aussie star would eventually lose the set in a tiebreaker, coughing up two set points at 6-4 in the breaker to lose it 8-6 putting her in a big hole in front of her stunned home fans.
