Aussie Alex Bolt defeats Albert Ramos Vinolas at Australian Open

Aussie wildcard Alex Bolt has produced a stunning comeback to defeat world No.42 Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Australian Open.

Bolt advanced to the second round after defeating his Spanish opponent 7-6 (7-1) 1-6 6-7 (5-7) 6-1 6-4.

Ranked world No. 140, Bolt stunned fans when he levelled the match at two sets a piece.

The 27-year-old was down down two sets to one, but a fourth set onslaught sparked the Aussie to life who proved he's capable of playing much higher ranked opponents.

However, Ramos-Vinolas ensured the Aussie didn't secure the match in easy fashion.

During the fifth set, Bolt was broken in his first service game and went down 2-0.

But when Ramos-Vinolas looked certain to take a 4-2 in the deciding set, Bolt earned back a break and levelled the scores at 3-3.

The Aussie then went on to claim another break and close out the deciding set 6-4.

Bolt will meet world No.5 Dominic Thiem in the second round of the tournament.

Thiem cruised through his match earlier today, defeating French opponent Adrian Mannarino in straight sets, 6-3 7-5 6-2.
