Records smashed at short course swimming

Five more world records has been broken at the short-course world championships, with Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden setting two on the final day.

Following Sunday's races, the total number of world records at the Hamad Aquatic Centre in Doha ended at 23, way ahead of the 17 set at the 2008 worlds in Manchester.

One of those record breakers, Brazil's Etiene Medeiros, became the fastest woman to wim the 50m backstroke and in doing so edged out Australia's Emily Seebohm for the gold.

Seebohm finished second in a time of 25.83s, behind Medeiros' record-breaking mark of 25.67 which shaved 0.03 off Croatian Sanja Jovanovic's time set in Istanbul in 2009.

Sjostrom dominated her events in the 25-metre pool, setting records in winning the 100m butterfly and 200 freestyle finals.

In other events, Markus Deibler set a new mark in winning the 100 medley and the Netherlands broke the record in the women's 4x50 freestyle.
