Phelps sizzles in 200m butterfly win

Olympic superstar Michael Phelps won the 200m butterfly at the US swimming championships on Friday in the fastest time in the world this year.

Phelps threw down a time of 1min 52.94sec -- faster than the 1:53.48 that Hungarian Laszlo Cseh posted this week to win the world title in Kazan, Russia.

Phelps was cheered wildly by fans in San Antonio, who stamped on the bleachers and screamed as he squinted to see his time.

When he did, Phelps gave a little "number one" wag of his finger, and as the cheers grew slapped the water in celebration.

Phelps's drunk-driving arrest last September cost him his world championships berth -- but swimming in a US championships that amounts to a consolation meet the 18-time Olympic gold medallist showed he's still a force to be reckoned with as swimmers look toward the 2016 Rio Games.
