How synchronised swimming works

RULES FOR SYNCHRONISED SWIMMING:

* The event is contested in an area of the pool 30m long, 25m wide and 3m deep

* There are two events - teams and duets

* In the duets, each pair performs a technical routine and a free routine as part of the preliminary phase

* The top 12 scoring duet progress to the final where each performs a free routine

* In the team event, each team performs a technical routine and a free routine

* The combined scores determine the results

* Judges mark routines on a variety of components during the course of a routine, including choreography, difficulty and execution.
