Eight-time Paralympics gold-medallist swimmer Jacqui Freney has pulled out of the IPC World Championships due to an ongoing illness.

The 2014 Young Australian of the Year's training program has been affected by the illness and she will now rest in preparation for the Paralympics selection meeting in April next year.

"Jacqui will undergo further assessment on her condition that will aid in the management of her training program and will allow her to shift her focus to the 2016 Rio Paralympics," Paralympic Performance Manager Adam Pine said.

Freney became the most successful athlete at a single games when she won eight gold medals from as many events at the 2012 London Paralympics.

She also won three bronze in Beijing.
