Australia won the silver medal in the women's 4x100m medley relay at the Olympic Games on Saturday night.

Australia's team of Emily Seebohm, Taylor McKeown, Emma McKeon and Cate Campbell finished behind winners United States, with Denmark taking the bronze.

Seebohm put Australia in third after her backstroke leg but they slipped to seventh after McKeown's breaststroke leg, and were sixth after McKeon's butterfly stint.

But freestyler Campbell produced a superb last leg to claim the silver medal.

"It's so satisfying," Campbell told the Seven Network.

"To get the Danes by one one hundredth and to get them on the back end.

"I knew I was going to be diving in a little bit behind. I kept my head, I didn't panic. I've got to be proud of myself for that, if not for the rest of the week." The silver is the eighth time Australia have won an Olympic medal in the event - they also won silver in London four years ago after claiming gold in 2004 and 2008.
