St Louis Cardinals catcher Jadier Molina had a giggle at his own expense during his side’s MLB match against the Chicago Cubs.

Cardinals reliever Brett Cecil threw a mistimed pitch that fell short of the plate to the Cubs’ Matt Szczur early in the seventh inning.

The baseball bounced up and stuck to Molina’s chest guard like Velcro as Szczur reached first base safely.

The 14-year-veteran’s reaction in trying to locate the ball had a touch of Benny Hill about it, with the eight-time Gold Glove winner totally baffled by the case of the missing ball.

Molina finally looked down and realised the baseball was sitting right under his nose and had a bit of a laugh about it.

Things went a bit south for St Louis later in the seventh, losing their 4-2 lead to the defending champions with Kyle Schwarber hitting a three-run home run.
