Spectacular crash doesn't faze powerboat driver

A New Zealand powerboat driver has made a mockery of his spectacular 300km/h crash after claiming the life-threatening wipe-out didn’t "faze" him.

Two-time world champion Warwick Lupton was storming around Lake Dunstan in the New Zealand Powerboat National Championships when his 2000 horsepower boat Annihilator hit a wave and became airborne.

Footage of the incident shows the boat stretch out in front of two competitors before bouncing of the water, completing a 360 degree flip and crashing back into the lake where it snapped in two.

Amazingly, Lupton survived the crash with no serious injuries, able to free himself of the wreckage before being towed back to shore.

Talking to the Otago Daily Times, Lupton said he couldn't get a grip on the choppy conditions and lost control when he got too high on series of waves.

However, the accident had little impact on Lupton, claiming the high-speed crash was just part and parcel of life in the fast lane.

"I wasn't worried at all," he said. "It didn't faze me."
