Slater land spectacular 540 spin

Father Time just can’t seem to catch up to Kelly Slater with the former world champion proving you can teach an old dog new tricks.

The 42-year-old showed once again why he is the greatest surfer of all time when he landed a spectacular 540 spin during a lay day at the Moche Rip Curl Pro in Portugal.

In the vision, Slater powers up to a closeout ramp and shoots up into the air, spinning one and a half times before landing backwards in the whitewash of the wave.

“I just hit this closeout, and I just spun as hard as I could and I ended up backwards,” Slater told Surfer magazine.

“And then I was like, ‘Oh, I might make this thing.’ Then I spun out and was like, ‘Oh, cool.’”

Slater, who is gunning for his 12th world title, sits second on this year’s ASP world rankings, 6,500 points behind Brazilian Gabriel Medina with just two events remaining.
