A Shanghai firefighter has become a hit on the internet after defying the odds to make a great comeback in a 200m race.

Shanghai’s Qingpu District held a Spring competition for its local firefighters with competitors having to run the entire distance carrying water hoses in both hands weighing 12kg in total.

The firefighter in question, Yan Mengdi had a shocking start to the race slipping and dropping one of his hoses, leaving him over 10 metres behind the rest of the field.

But Yan didn’t let the setback get him down, fighting his way back into contention to pop up near the finish line to outsprint the rest of the firefighters and pip them for gold.
