Russian models turn boxers

We all know the story of the Beauty and the Beast.

Now the beauties are set to turn into beasts - or at least beasts of the ring thanks to a new reality TV show in Russia.

Under the guise of a boxing show, a posse of 70 models are battling it out for eight spots where they will be trained in the art of the ring and pitted against one another with the gloves on.

Called "Combat Model", the producers have begun auditions in Moscow with the would-be contestants slipping into bikinis and showing their prowess with some shadow boxing and mock sparring.

But naturally, many prospective pugilists are relying more on their charm, smile and physique rather than any ring craft to win a place on the card.

Strangely enough, there appears to be a slight blurring of the lines at the auditions with the models also entering the ring to show off their style as card girls.

Perhaps they have to carry the cards for their own fight between rounds.

Contest organiser Andrew Bazdrev says the project is aimed at showing that boxing can be easy, pleasant and done "nicely".

We can only wait with baited breath for the actual fights.
