Wallabies hope Japan Test gives RWC19 lift

The Wallabies feel they'll have an advantage over some of their World Cup rivals with Saturday's historic Test against Japan to be played at the venue for the 2019 tournament final.

The Australians face Japan for the first time on home soil at Yokohama Stadium, which will host the decider of rugby's showpiece tournament.

While they are intent on keeping intact their unbeaten record against Japan, they are also using the stopover as a reconnaissance mission before heading to Britain for Tests against Wales, England and Scotland.

Australia are also reportedly planning a Bledisloe Cup Test in Japan next year against New Zealand in another opportunity to familiarise themselves.

Wallabies assistant coaches Stephen Larkham and Nathan Grey also provide indispensable knowledge, having played three and five years respectively in Japan.

"It's invaluable to get to a venue before the World Cup," Larkham said.

"Knowing that the World Cup final is going to be played at the stadium that we play at on Saturday night is a bonus for us. And, if we possibly have a game here next year, then it'll be another opportunity for us to spend a bit of time here and get to know the layout.

"I think it'll bode well for the World Cup in two years' time."

Larkham said Australian Super Rugby teams regularly travelled to Japan to face the Sunwolves and this also helped heading into their clash with the Brave Blossoms.

"We know the landscape well and the culture and we have done our homework," he said.

The Wallabies on Thursday will name their team for Saturday's match, while World Cup organisers will reveal the match scheduling and locations of the 48 matches, with the day marking two years until the final.

Australia are drawn in a pool with Wales, Georgia, Fiji and Canada or Uruguay, who square off early next year with the winner to qualify as America 2.
